Mumbai, February 23: The interim protection of Dalit activist and academic Anand Teltumbde has been extended by the Bombay High Court. The High Court extended the interim protection to Teltumbde from arrest till February 27, 2019. Bhima Koregaon Case: Activist Anand Teltumbde Files Anticipatory Bail Application in Bombay HC.

Teltumbde had requested the Court to adjourn the hearing of the matter. A single-judge bench of Justice Nitin Sambre adjourned the hearing of Teltumbde's case and extended his protection from arrest, as per the request of Mihir Desai, the counsel of Anand Teltumbde.

Teltumbde is one of the 21 human rights’ activists named as accused for their alleged roles in the Bhima-Koregaon violence case, pertaining to the violence that broke out in the town on January 1, 2018.

Another serious charge hovers on the activists as they have been accused of plotting to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The investigations in the matter is led by Pune Police, which has invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against all the accused. The UAPA was invoked as the activists have been alleged to have links with the banned Maoist organisation.
