New Delhi, December 13: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on Thursday appointed Brijendra Pal Singh, current Vice Chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Governing Council, as the new President of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society and Chairman of Governing Council. Singh was the director-producer of the popular crime series C.I.D which aired on Sony Tv. Anupam Kher Steps Down As Chairman Of Film And Television Institute Of India (FTII).

“Singh is an experienced television producer, who owns Fireworks Productions, which has to its credit one of the longest and most popular shows on television, C.I.D.,” said an official to Hindustan Times.

Singh's appointment comes weeks after actor Anupam Kher resigned from the post citing his “commitment to international TV shows” as the reason for not completing the term. In a resignation letter addressed to the MIB Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Kher said, "The decision has not come without considerable thought of the responsibilities expected of me vis-a-vis the time I have at my disposal to execute them.”

Meanwhile, Singh will be the third person to be appointed as chairperson of FTII by Narendra Modi government. The Film and Television Institute of India is an autonomous institute under the MIB Ministry. The institute established in 1960 is India's premier film and television institute.
