The restrictions will remain in force from September 11 to September 13 because of the summit being held in New Delhi, effectively preventing non-scheduled operators (NSOPs) from operating flights in the restricted area during the specified hours, unless they fall under an exempted category or obtain the required security clearance.
What the NOTAM Says
The NOTAM prohibits aircraft from taking off or landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport and subsidiary airports within a 300-km radius of Delhi, except for specified categories of flights. Scheduled commercial flights have been exempted from the restrictions, along with specially authorised BRICS Summit flights carrying dignitaries whose flight plans and routes have been coordinated and approved in advance with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Flights operated by the Indian Air Force, BSF and Aviation Research Centre, as well as Army Aviation helicopters undertaking Quick Reaction Team missions and casualty or immediate medical evacuation, have also been exempted. State-owned aircraft or helicopters carrying a Governor or Chief Minister are likewise exempt. 450 CCTV Cameras Deployed Across Delhi
More than 450 CCTV cameras have been deployed along key routes in Delhi to strengthen security ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, with round-the-clock surveillance being maintained over the movement of VVIP dignitaries. Times Now visited the CCTV control room at Tughlaq Road Police Station, where personnel are monitoring live feeds from cameras installed along routes expected to be used by VVIPs during the summit.
The surveillance system has been put in place to detect any suspicious movement, vehicle or object, with police personnel monitoring the feeds able to alert the main control room or contact teams deployed on the ground for immediate action.
