Lucknow, December 25: In a major failure for UP Police in the Bulandshahr violence, one of the two main accused in the case, Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJPYM) leader Shikhar Agarwal, who has been absconding in the case, appeared in the court pleading against an order issued by the police for seizing his property. Yogesh Raj of the Bajrang Dal is the main accused in the case who allegedly shot dead inspector Subodh Kumar Singh.
The UP Police has issued a notice to the effect of seizing Shikhar Agarwal's property in the case, as he is absconding in the Bulandshahr violence case. On Saturday, Shikhar Agarwal appeared in the Bulandshahr Court and has requested three week time to file a reply in the court against the UP Police order. Earlier, an open letter signed by 83 former bureaucrats not only criticised Central and state government, but asked UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to resign saying that the UP government was not serious about bringing the accused of the Bulandshahr mob violence to book. They have asked the citizens to unite in a ‘crusade against the politics of hate and division – a politics which aims to destroy the fundamental principles on which our Republic is founded’. Criticising the Adityanath’s government, the letter reads, “It is a measure of the rapid erosion of constitutional values that we, as a group, have felt a compelling need to speak out as many as nine times in the last eighteen months.” It adds that the inaction had sent a message to the Muslim community residing in the Bulandshahr that they would have to live in fear, accept their subordinate status and conform to the cultural diktats of the majority community.
