Chennai Hostel Shocker: Landlord Jailed After Girls Found Secret Cameras Installed in Bathroom

Chennai, December 5: The Adambakkam police in Chennai jailed a landlord after girls staying at his hostel registered a complaint on finding secret cameras installed in the bathroom. The accused, Sampath Raj alias Sanjay, was arrested on Tuesday, three days after the victims approached the police.

The seven girls, who had paying Rs 5,500 each to stay at Sanjay's hostel, had paid Rs 20,000 as security deposit. They had found the lodging place through a Facebook page - 'Flats & Flatmates'. SRM Hostel Staffer Masturbates in Front of Girl Student.

The secret cameras were found by one of them on December 2, when she attempted to plug-in the hair dryer into a socket. Despite numerous attempts, the dryer's plug could not inserted into the socket. On dismantling, the electric board, the girls found a camera installed.

An investigation conducted by the Adambakkam police found cameras installed secretly in various sockets, lights, watches and on a hanger of wardrobe. In all, 9 cameras were dismantled by the police officials.

Before taking Sanjay into custody, the police also seized three laptops, two tablets, 10 mobile phones and one hard disk from him.

The police also found that he used to frequent the hostel on numerous occasions on pretext of monitoring the presence of outsiders. Sanjay had also renovated the hostel months ago, in an alleged bid to fix new cameras and adjust the position of existing ones.

An official privy to the case said the accused has been booked under relevant sections of the IT Act. Based on further investigation, more charges under the IPC could be invoked against him, he added.
