Lucknow, December 29: The Indian National Congress worker on whose scooter party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi travelled while going to meet family members of Former IPS officer SR Darapuri on Saturday has been challaned. The Congress general secretary hitched a ride on a scooter after her car was stopped by the police at Lohia Path in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow. Both Gurjar and Priyanka were not wearing held and were found violating traffic rules. They were again stopped by the cops after which Priyanka decided to walk to ex-IPS officer's residence.

Priyanka Gandhi has alleged that she was manhandled by police and "grabbed by the neck for no reason." “UP police stopped me while I was going to meet the family of Darapuri Ji. A policewoman strangulated and manhandled me. They surrounded me while I was going on a party worker's two-wheeler, after which I walked to reach there,” she said.

The Uttar Pradesh Police, however, denied the Congress leader's allegations and stated that her vehicle was not moving in the scheduled route. "A number of things (such as manhandling and neck grabbing) are being circulated on social media, which is completely false. I have discharged my duty with full sincerity," a police official said in a letter to ASP (Protocol).

"Smt Vadra departed from UP Congress office for Gokhale Marg. As the other vehicles of the fleet were moving on the scheduled route, the vehicle of Priyanka Gandhi instead moving on the scheduled route (from 1090 crossing) moved towards Lohia Path. At that point of time, I wanted to seek the details of her destination from the security point of view as to where she wanted to go. However, the party workers refused to share any information," the letter stated.
