The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has dismantled a Pakistan-linked espionage network operating in the National Capital Region, arresting a local couple accused of aiding Pakistani intelligence operatives (PIOs) and procuring Indian SIM cards for illicit data gathering.
The suspects, identified as Mohammad Sahil (25), a resident of Sarai Kale Khan, and his wife Sameera (21), were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation by the Special Cell’s Northern Range. According to police officials, the couple had been communicating with handlers affiliated with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) via social media platforms since 2024. Investigating officers revealed that the primary modus operandi involved obtaining active Indian SIM cards and smuggling them to Pakistan through transit routes in Dubai. Between 2024 and 2025, the couple reportedly sent eight Indian SIM cards to their handlers in exchange for approximately ₹30,000.
Once received in Pakistan, the SIM cards were used to create messaging and WhatsApp accounts using Indian mobile numbers. Operatives allegedly utilized these accounts to gain unauthorized access to domestic social media groups and gather sensitive information.
Beyond supplying SIM cards, investigators disclosed that Sahil was tasked with expanding local logistical support for the spy ring. He had allegedly been assigned to identify and recruit individuals to carry out reconnaissance on various army cantonment areas across India. Additionally, he was directed to gather confidential details regarding military personnel facing pending court-martial proceedings before tribunals.
