Mumbai, February 2: Boarding passes of passengers flying out of Mumbai airport’s terminal 2 (T2) will not be stamped till the end of February as the airport authorities have initiated a trail for the ‘digi yatra’ initiative, which seeks to promote paperless and hassle-free air travel. According to a report by TOI, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has informed that a ‘trial for a pilot project of 'digi yatra’ will commence which would eliminate the stamping of the boarding passes. Once the trial is over, the practice may be stopped at T2.  Digi Yatra New Rules Notified by DGCA; Soon, Domestic Air Travellers Can Enter Airports Without Showing ID Card. 

According to the report, a senior CISF official was quoted saying, “The trial commenced at Mumbai airport for domestic flights from T2 of Air India, Jet Airways and Vistara. Friskers will not stamp boarding passes of passengers as they are being scanned at e-gates at pre-security hold areas”. The report further states that GVK Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), which runs Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, had on January 14 informed that it had the technology to eliminate boarding pass stamping for domestic airlines operating out of T2. The Digi Yatra would be operational by end of February 2019. According to reports, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports would be ready for Digi Yatra implementation on a pilot basis by the same time. Passengers would not have to pay for this facility. The ministry plans to roll out Digi Yatra at all airports in a phased manner. According to the Aviation Ministry, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) plans to roll out the initiative at Kolkata, Varanasi, Pune and Vijayawada airports by April next year. India to be 2nd Fastest Growing Nation For Passenger Traffic.

Under the government's Digi Yatra initiative, fliers will soon be able to enter airports in the country with facial recognition biometrics. The initiative, which is believed to be "forward-looking and futuristic", is a biometrics-based digital processing system for passenger entry and related requirements at the airport.
