Dirty Toilet on National Highway? Report It Through Rajmargyatra App To Get INR 1,000 FASTag Reward

Finding a clean public toilet during long road trips on Indian highways can be a challenge. While the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has built and maintained toilet facilities at several locations along national highways and expressways, cleanliness and maintenance remain concerns at some facilities.

To address the issue, NHAI is encouraging commuters to report unclean toilets under its Clean Toilet Picture Challenge, with eligible participants receiving a INR 1,000 FASTag recharge as a reward.

NHAI Clean Toilet Challenge Extended Till June 30, 2027

The Clean Toilet Picture Challenge was launched in September 2025 and has now been extended until June 30, 2027. According to NHAI, the initiative has received a positive response from National Highway users.

How To Report An Unclean Highway Toilet And Get INR 1,000

The initiative is open to National Highway commuters. To participate, users need to upload a clear, geo-tagged and time-stamped photograph of an unclean toilet through the latest version of the Rajmargyatra mobile app. No More Cash at Toll Plazas: NHAI Plans Cashless Toll System Across India’s Highways, Digital Payments via FASTag and UPI Only From April 2026.

Participants are required to provide basic details while submitting the report, including:

• Name
• Location of the toilet
• Vehicle registration number
• Mobile number
• Clear photograph of the unclean facility

After the submission, NHAI will examine the photograph and other information before deciding whether the report qualifies for the reward.

Who Can Get The INR 1,000 FASTag Reward?

For every eligible report, the registered vehicle registration number (VRN) will receive a INR 1,000 FASTag recharge credited to the FASTag linked with that VRN.

However, there are certain conditions. Each VRN can receive only one reward during the entire scheme period. The reward is non-transferable and cannot be claimed as cash.

If multiple commuters report the same toilet facility on the same day, only the first valid submission made through the Rajmargyatra app will qualify for consideration.

Which Toilets Are Covered Under NHAI's Scheme?

The Clean Toilet Picture Challenge applies only to toilet facilities that are constructed, operated or maintained under NHAI's jurisdiction.

Toilets at retail fuel stations, dhabas and other public facilities are not covered because they do not fall under NHAI's jurisdiction.

NHAI will verify submissions using AI-assisted screening as well as manual validation before approving eligible reports.

Social Media Users Question NHAI Over Road Conditions

The initiative has also sparked discussion on social media, with several users questioning whether similar rewards should be offered for reporting potholes, damaged roads and other highway-related problems.

One user questioned why commuters were being encouraged to report only unclean toilets and suggested that NHAI should also reward people for reporting potholes, cracked highways and blind spots.

Another user asked whether contractors would face penalties for poor road conditions.

The Clean Toilet Picture Challenge is aimed at improving sanitation facilities along National Highways. At the same time, maintaining public infrastructure is also a shared responsibility, as public facilities can be damaged or vandalised by users.

For highway commuters, however, the initiative provides an incentive to report poorly maintained NHAI toilet facilities while helping authorities identify locations that require attention.
