Lucknow, December 14: Months before the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the BJP-led Union government has announced to operate country’s fasted train – T-18 – between the national capital and Varanasi. For the final trial run, the engineless train reached Delhi, where the Union Ministry of Railways would test it on the section before introducing it commercially.

On December 11, the Union Ministry has asked the three zonal railways – Northern, North Central and North Eastern Railways – to ensure preparedness for the ‘introduction of the service at short notice’. The ‘Made in India’ train is an engineless train, which crossed 180 km per hour during its trial run between Kota-Sawai Madhopur section. The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) had submitted its final report the ministry and have recommended operating the train at 160 km per hour on the prescribed section.

According to the reports, the Delhi-Varanasi 700-km section doesn’t permit more than 160 km per hour speed; however the train could attain a speed of 180 km per hour.
