Gaya Police have arrested two people in connection with a viral video showing a young man and his female friend being assaulted and harassed by a group near Mahuadih in Bihar’s Gaya district. The incident, which occurred in a hilly area under the Sherghati police station limits, marks the fourth reported case of its kind in the state this week, following earlier episodes in Jamui, Samastipur and Banka.

According to police, on September 29, the Sherghati Police Station received information regarding a viral video showing villagers assaulting and mistreating a young man who was seen roaming with a female friend near the Mahuadih hill area within the Sherghati police station limits. It is reported that the young man and his female friend were confronted by the villagers and subjected to verbal abuse and physical assault. Footage of the confrontation circulated widely on social media, prompting police to take cognisance of the matter. Gaya police said that based on the complainant's application, a case (Sherghati Police Station Case No. 482/26, dated 29.09.2026) was registered, and an investigation was initiated. Gaya Police confirmed the arrests of two individuals identified from the video. They said that the arrested accused are Shri Manjhi, son of Bani Manjhi and Upendra Singh, son of Saryu Ram. Both accused are residents of Mahuadih, Sherghati Police Station in Gaya district. "Continuous raids are being conducted to arrest the other accused," the official statement read.

Pattern of Recent Incidents
This case follows a series of similar videos from Bihar that have drawn public attention in recent days. In Jamui, a video showed two Class 10 students being stopped, harassed and assaulted by a group. Police made arrests in that matter, including after an encounter in which one accused was injured.
