A 16-year-old Class 10 student in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior was allegedly raped by her 17-year-old neighbour after he threatened to make her private photographs and chat screenshots public, police said. The accused, who had allegedly been stalking the girl for nearly a year, has been arrested and sent to a reform home.

According to the complaint, the girl was on her way to a coaching class on Saturday evening when the accused allegedly intercepted her on a motorcycle. He allegedly threatened to circulate her photographs and chats if she did not comply with his demands.
Police said the accused then allegedly forced the girl to accompany him to a flat, where she alleged that he raped her. He later allegedly dropped her near her coaching centre. The girl subsequently returned home and informed her mother about the incident. Her family approached the police, following which an FIR was registered late Sunday night under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police traced and detained the accused within hours of the complaint. Since he is also 17, he was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent him to a reform home. Gwalior Kotwali police station in-charge Prashant Sharma told Times of India that the accused was taken into custody after being booked on the basis of the survivor's complaint. Police are recording statements of relevant witnesses and examining the digital material referred to in the complaint as part of the investigation. The girl's family alleged that the accused had been following her for nearly a year, particularly around her coaching centre. According to her complaint, he later began threatening her using private photographs and chat screenshots. The harassment had reportedly stopped for a period after the girl's family counselled the accused, but police said the alleged stalking and threats later resumed. The latest complaint relates to the alleged incident on Saturday, when the girl was travelling to her coaching class. The girl's identity has not been disclosed to protect her privacy, in accordance with legal safeguards applicable to survivors of sexual offences.
