Rohtak, June 15: In a tragic incident, a doctor from Karnataka who was pursuing MD in Haryana, committed suicide after he was denied leave for his sister's wedding. According to a tweet by ANI, the doctor was pursuing MD at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Haryana. Reports inform that he took this extreme step after he was not given leave by the HOD of the college to attend his sister's marriage. In the wake of the tragic incident, the doctors in Haryana have gone on strike in protest. Doctors' Strike: Resident Doctors Association at AIIMS Issue 48-Hour Ultimatum to West Bengal Government.

The protest in Haryana comes at the time when the country is reeling under the crisis in the healthcare services as doctors' strike across India deepened since Friday in solidarity with their agitating colleagues in West Bengal over the attack on junior doctors at NRS Medical College and Hospital. On Friday, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) also called for a nationwide strike on June 17, while demanding safe working conditions for doctors.

In the wake of the attack, doctors in Delhi's AIIMS and other prominent hospitals, in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana as well as other places, especially AIIMS, stayed away from work, demanding justice for their Bengal counterparts and enhanced security for practitioners.
