Puducherry, November 22: Heavy rainfall lashed parts of Tamil Nadu,  Puducherry and Karaikal on Thursday and will continue for the few days as cyclonic circulation lies over East Iran and adjoining Afghanistan, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The weather agency further added saying that parts of the southern states will be lashed by torrential rains till November 26. "Heavy rainfall, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning is very likely at isolated places over Kerala & Mahe, Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Lakshadweep during next 24 hours", the IMD stated in its All India Weather Bulletin on Friday.

The current weather condition in the southern states is due to a western disturbance, which lies as a cyclonic circulation at 3.1 km above mean sea level lies over East Iran & adjoining Afghanistan. Apart from the southern states, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rain/snow and thunderstorm/hailstorm very likely over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on November 22. Winters 2019: Heavy Snowfall and Rainfall to Lash Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh Over Next 48 Hours, Says IMD.

Heavy downpour is expected to batter a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on November 25 and 26 in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Rayalseema. The IMD said that another Western Disturbance is seen as as a trough in mid-tropospheric westerlies which is likely to affect Western Himalayan region and adjoining plains from the night of November 25.
