IRDAI Warns Public Against Fraudulent Website 'igmsirdai.online' Impersonating Grievance Portal
IRDAI has warned the public against the fraudulent website 'igmsirdai.online' impersonating its grievance platform. The regulator urged citizens to avoid sharing sensitive data and use only the official Bima Bharosa portal at bimabharosa.irdai.gov.in. IRDAI clarified that it holds no liability for data disclosures or financial losses resulting from interactions with unauthorised third-party websites.
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has issued a formal public warning against an unauthorised website impersonating its insurance grievance-redressal platform, cautioning consumers against sharing sensitive financial or personal details online.
Warning Against Unauthorised Portal
In a public notice released on September 4, the insurance sector regulator flagged the domain "igmsirdai.online" and its associated complaint-registration pages. Signed by Raj Kumar Sharma, Executive Director at IRDAI, the advisory emphasises that the portal has no official affiliation with the regulatory body. "The said website is not an official IRDAI website. The matter is being examined by IRDAI and appropriate action is being initiated/taken in accordance with applicable law,” the regulator stated.
Protecting Consumer Data
The warning targets policyholders seeking to register or manage insurance complaints. IRDAI has instructed consumers to avoid sharing banking details, passwords, one-time passwords (OTPs), KYC credentials, or personal information on unverified platforms. “To not access, register complaints or submit any personal, policy, financial, banking, KYC, OTP or other sensitive information on the above website or any other website claiming to represent IRDAI without verification,” the notice added.
Official Channels and Precautionary Measures
To ensure secure communications, the regulator reiterated that all official insurance grievances must be routed exclusively through the designated Bima Bharosa portal at www.bimabharosa.irdai.gov.in. Individuals who have already interacted with the fraudulent platform are advised to take immediate precautionary measures and report suspicious activities to local cybercrime or law-enforcement authorities. IRDAI clarified that it holds no liability for data disclosures or financial losses resulting from interactions with unauthorised third-party websites.
