New Delhi, August 21: Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Wednesday stated that his Ministry is looking into the aspects of diverting India's share of Indus river from Pakistan to help farmers, industries and people of the country. The Central Minister also stated that directions had been given to authorities to execute the plan.

Speaking on the issue, Shekhawat said, as quoted by news agency ANI, "Beyond the Indus Water Treaty a large part of India's share of water goes to Pakistan. We're working on priority to work out how our share of water that flows to Pakistan, can be diverted, for use by our farmers, industries and people." Adding on, the Union Minister said that the Narendra Modi government had directed the authorities to work on hydrological and techno feasibility studies to execute the plans. Information is pouring out that the latest move has been initiated to help the ailing farmers who are suffering from agrarian crisis.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May formed the Jal Shakti Ministry, citing the acute agrarian crisis in India. The Union Ministry aims to work on plans to help the ailing farmers from the water crisis. Also, the Ministry looks into different aspects of water conservation and cleaning of rivers.
