Srinagar, December 31: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Tuesday said that the local recruitment into militancy has gone down considerably this year. According to Dilbag Singh, 139 people from Jammu and Kashmir joined militancy in 2019 compared to last year's figure of 2018. "As per our record around 130 people managed to infiltrate this year, compared to last year's figure of 143," Singh said. "The number of terrorists who have been active for a long time has gone down. The number of active terrorists now stands at 250, 50 down from 300 in 2018," the top cop added. While the number of active terrorists and infiltrations have come down, ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan nearly doubled in 2019. Jammu And Kashmir: IPS Vijay Kumar as Appointed New IGP of Kashmir, Replaces SP Pani.

According to a report, in 2019, a total 3,200 incidents of ceasefire violations from across the Line of Control (LoC) has have been reported compared to 1,629 incidents in 2018, or almost double. In December this year so far, 329 incidents have been reported which are also nearly double the 175 cases reported in the same month last year. Pakistan increased ceasefire violations after India withdrew Jammu and Kashmir's special status granted under Article 370.

In August, a total 307 incidents were reported, while 292 incidents occurred in September, 351 in October and 304 cases were reported in November. Prior to this, 203 incidents were reported in January, 215 in February, 267 in March, 234 in April, 22 in May, 181 in June and 296 cases in July. Compared to 2017, the number of ceasefire violations in 2019 has tripled. In 2017, a total 860 incidents were reported, against only 228 in 2016.
