All Gates Opened at Salal Dam as Chenab River Swells

Following a rapid rise in water inflow from upper catchment areas, authorities opened all spillway gates of the Salal Hydroelectric Power Project in Reasi district to manage reservoir levels. The controlled discharge has caused the Chenab River to swell significantly downstream, generating powerful currents. District officials and local police deployed mobile units using loudspeakers along riverbank villages to warn residents to stay away from the swollen banks and keep livestock safe.

Flash Floods and Mudslides Cause Havoc in Doda

In the Chenab Valley region, heavy downpours triggered flash floods in the Kalalgisar area of Bhalessa in Doda district. Floodwaters carrying heavy debris and boulders submerged local roads, temporarily isolating several interior villages. Residential properties and local commercial establishments in towns like Thathri suffered partial damage due to inundation. Emergency response teams equipped with heavy machinery have been stationed to clear mud, fallen trees, and rock debris from critical link roads.

Shooting Stones and Landslides Block Arterial Highways

Traffic along the strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH44) was suspended due to continuous shooting stones and mudslides at vulnerable stretches along the Ramban sector. Authorities halted movement at Udhampur and Qazigund to ensure traveler safety. Disruptions were also reported along the Jammu-Kishtwar Highway (NH244) following rockfalls at multiple points. Commuters have been strongly advised to avoid non-essential travel until clearance operations finish and weather conditions improve.
