Jammu, August 25: An Army jawan was martyred in a mine blast in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Reports inform that the blast took place in north Kashmir's frontier Kupwara district late on Friday night. According to a report by The Tribune, the mine blast took place at around 10 PM when the army was patrolling an area close to the Line of Control (LoC). The identity of the soldier could not be established immediately.

"A soldier of 3 JAK RIF got injured due to mine blast and succumbed to his injuries," a security official was quoted in the report. Earlier this week, one terrorist was gunned down by the security forces in an encounter, which broke out in Handwara town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

On Tuesday, an Army jawan was injured due to ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Kupwara district in Tangdhar sector. Earlier in the month, Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre had informed that there were 152 cases of ceasefire violations in 2015. The incidences rose to 228 and 860 in 2016 and 2017 respectively. He had further stated that 942 cases of ceasefire violations had already been reported till July 23, 2018.
