Ranchi, December 5: A group of miscreants on Tuesday looted around  Rs 34 lakh in cash from a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Jharkhand. According to a tweet by ANI, around six armed masked men were involved in the bank robbery that took place in Dumka's Santhal Pargana region. Reports inform that the burglars fled the spot. According to reports, the police have recovered CCTV footage of the incident and an investigation into the matter is underway.

Earlier in August, a similar incident was reported from Bukru branch of Punjab National Bank in Jharkhand. Reports inform that a group of five armed men looted out Rs 4.29 lakh from the Bukru branch. The report informs that there were six employees inside, including branch manager Subhangini Kumari, besides four to six customers when the incident took place. The burglars pointed their pistols and locked up everybody in a room. In 10 minutes, the five men looted the bank. The bank had no security guard at the time of the incident.

In September, a similar incident was reported from Noida where two security guards on duty were killed in a failed robbery attempt. According to a report by IANS, the bodies lying in the guard room were discovered by another guard who reached PNB's circle office branch at Sector-1 for his morning shift duty. Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma was quoted in the report saying that the security guards were attacked with sticks and sharp objects on their heads between. He added saying that the attackers gained entry into the bank by using the keys but could not break open the strong room in the basement.
