New Delhi, January 6: The senior warden of Sabarmati Hostel of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) -- R Meena -- has resigned a day after violence in the central university stating the reason that she could not provide security to the students. The senior warden on Monday wrote a letter to the dean of students of JNU regarding the same, after around 40 students and teachers were attacked by masked miscreants on Sunday evening.

In the letter to the Dean of the Students-JNU, senior warden of Sabarmati Hostel R Meena wrote, "Hereby I am informing you that I am resigning from the post of Senior warden/wardenship/Sabarmati hostel, because we tried but can't provide for security to hostels." It is to be known that Sabarmati was the first hostel to be attacked by miscreants on Sunday evening. Earlier in the day, reports arrived that Registrar and Pro-VC of JNU already met LG Anil Baijal and apprised him of the situation. Police also stated that they are scanning the CCTV footage and will take action accordingly. Also, AIIMS and Safdarjung hospital administration have stated that they have discharged 35 students who were admitted after the violence.

Meanwhile, Delhi Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar had appealed to the students to maintain peace and assured that their winter semester registration will take place without any hindrance. Kumar also stated that University their winter semester registration will take place without any hindrance.
