As the annual Shravan Kanwar Yatra gathers momentum across northern India, the Baghpat district administration showered flower petals from a helicopter onto thousands of Lord Shiva devotees (Kanwariyas) traversing major pilgrimage routes and gathered at key shrines in the region.
The aerial welcome was conducted over prominent transit corridors and religious spots, including areas leading toward the historic Pura Mahadev temple. Senior administrative and police officials monitored the operation, which forms part of a multi-district initiative coordinated by the Uttar Pradesh state government to facilitate the pilgrimage. Along with the aerial gesture, local authorities inspected ground security, traffic diversions, and crowd control measures. Routes connecting Baghpat with neighboring hubs like Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur have seen dedicated pedestrian lanes and phased vehicular restrictions to ensure safe passage for pilgrims carrying Gangajal (holy water from the Ganges River).
State-Wide Gesture and Safety Measures
The flower shower in Baghpat is part of a broader two-day aerial campaign scheduled by state authorities across seven western Uttar Pradesh districts—including Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, and Bulandshahr. Officials stated the program aims to maintain orderly transit while acknowledging the physical endurance of the pilgrims.
