Karnataka: 50 Students Hospitalised After Suspected Food Poisoning at Residential Hostel

Fifty students from the Murarji Desai residential hostel at Dandoti in Kalaburagi district were hospitalized last night after showing symptoms of severe food poisoning. The students reportedly complained of acute abdominal pain shortly after consuming dinner at the hostel mess.

Fifty students from the Murarji Desai residential hostel at Dandoti in Kalaburagi district were hospitalized last night after showing symptoms of severe food poisoning. The students reportedly complained of acute abdominal pain shortly after consuming dinner at the hostel mess. Emergency medical protocols were immediately initiated to distribute the affected students across multiple nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

Local health officials confirmed that the majority of the patients, totaling 31 students, were admitted to the Chittapur Hospital. Additionally, 10 students are undergoing treatment at the Gundgurti Hospital, five were taken to the Malkhed Hospital, and one student was admitted to the local Dandoti Hospital. Following the incident, Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ikramulla Shariff and District Health Officer (DHO) Sharanbasappa paid an emergency visit to the Chittapur Hospital. The officials assessed the clinical status of the admitted students, interacted with the treating physicians, and directed hospital administrations to ensure that top-tier healthcare and resources are provided for a swift recovery. While the exact cause of the illness remains under investigation, health authorities suspect contaminated food or water served during the dinner. Samples from the hostel kitchen are expected to be sent for laboratory analysis to pinpoint the source of the outbreak.
