Kolkata, November 5: In a shocking incident in Kolkata, a 22-year-old woman was allegedly drugged and gang-raped by her social media ‘boyfriend’ and his associates a day after Kali Puja. The woman had met the accused, identified as Rajib Sardar, through social media a few weeks prior.

On November 1, they arranged to meet for pandal-hopping at Garia railway station. After spending time together, the accused reportedly invited her to his residence in the Dhalua area of Narendrapur. Shivpuri Shocker: Brother Rapes Minor Girl After She Informs Him About Rape by Father For Nearly 2 Years in Madhya Pradesh.

According to police sources, the accused spiked her soft drink at his residence, causing her to lose consciousness. When she regained awareness, she alleged that she had been raped by multiple individuals. The family, upon learning of her condition, immediately took her to MR Bangur Hospital, where she received treatment. Following her discharge on Sunday, the woman filed a complaint with the Narendrapur police station, detailing her ordeal and naming four individuals as suspects. Chhattisgarh Horror: Out on Parole, Man Rapes 11-Year-Old Daughter and Niece in Baikunthpur; Arrested After 4 Days.

Police have since arrested Rajib Sardar and another suspect, Rakesh Naskar, and a search is underway for the remaining two accused. “The sex assault was committed in Narendrapur’s Dhalua area. The accused befriended the victim through social media and took advantage of her trust. We have recorded her initial statement, and a formal statement before a magistrate will be taken soon,” a senior officer said.

Both the families of the accused have denied the allegations, claiming their sons were framed. However, police are continuing their investigation and plan to send crucial evidence collected from the crime spot for forensic examination.

Police have charged the accused under BNS sections for gang-rape and confinement in the case. Investigators are analysing CCTV footage from Garia station to clarify the sequence of events and ensure a comprehensive charge sheet, according to officials from Bhawani Bhawan.
