New Delhi, July 17: A 20-year-old woman in a live-in relationship was found hammered to death at a residence in Delhi's Sangam Vihar. She was murdered on Sunday by her 45-year-old partner, who works as an e-rickshaw driver, the police said after conducting preliminary inquiry into the case.

The accused, who is under custody, has been identified by his first name Ramvir. During the course of interrogation, he told the police officials that the murder was committed by him in rage.

Ramvir claimed the deceased began living with him five days ago. On Sunday, they got into an argument after he suspected her to be in an illicit relationship with a person in his neighbourhood.

Romil Baaniya, deputy commissioner of police (south), said the woman was found bludgeoned to death when the team of officials visited the site of crime. Her face and neck, he said, was smashed using an object made of iron. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Police were alerted about the murder by Ramvir's wife, who lives with their 20-year-old son in the same neighbourhood. She claimed that Ramvir came to their house immediately after murdering his live-in partner and confessed to the crime. As soon as he left, his wife dialled the police and informed about the crime.

Ramvir was apprehended from the terrace of the residential building where he murdered his live-in partner.

A police official privy to the case said efforts are underway to locate the family members or associates of the deceased.
