Lucknow, September 18: While parts of north and eastern India remain rain deficit this monsoon season, incessant rainfall has caused a flood-like situation in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The water level in rivers in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar crossed the danger mark, submerging houses and shops in low-lying areas. The water level of River Ganga rose 55 cm above the danger mark at Gandhi Ghat in Bihar's Patna following continuous rains. Mumbai Rains: IMD Issues Red Alert for Thursday, Heavy Rainfall to Lash City Over Next 24 Hours.

Areas such as Adalat Ganj, Kankarbagh, Sri Krishna Puri, Pataliputra and Rajendra Nagar in Bihar's capital city witnessed water-logging after torrential rains for five-straight hours. The water level of River Gandaki in Bagaha also swelled. The Central Water Commission (CWC) has sounded a flood alert for all the districts in Bihar. Water-logging in Bihar's Patna:

In Uttar Pradesh, low-lying areas in Varanashi and Pryagraj saw heavy water-logging due to rise in the water level of River Ganga. "Water level is increasing continuously and approaching the danger mark. Many ghats have been submerged in water. We are facing problems," a local resident told news agency ANI. The water level in the Yamuna river has too swelled to dangerous proportions.

Water-logging in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj:

The fresh rise in the water level of Yamuna river is caused by continuous releases from reservoirs in Chambal, Ken, Betwa and Sone Basins in Madhya Pradesh, which has received excess rains this monsoon season. The river is flowing in Severe Flood Situation in districts of Etawah, Auraiya, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Prattappur in Uttar Pradesh and is likely to cross the danger mark in Allahabad today.

According to private weather forecast agency Skymet, moderate rainfall with one or two heavy to very heavy spells is likely over Konkan and Goa, adjoining Madhya Maharashtra, parts of Vidarbha and North Telangana during the next 24 hours. Madhya Pradesh, east and central Uttar Pradesh, parts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Marathwada, North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, parts of Tamil Nadu, and rest Telangana may see light to moderate rains.

In Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and Thane for Thursday with a forecast of "heavy to very heavy" rain in the city and suburbs.
