Mumbai, July 1: Normal life in Mumbai was hit on Monday after the city was lashed by torrential rainfall since Saturday. The heavy rainfall in parts of the city caused waterlogging and flooding in several parts including Kurla, Bhandup, Thane, Palghar, Sion, Dadar, Matunga, among others. Local train services were hit and trains on the the Central, Harbour and Western lines were running late due to rains in the city. According to a tweet by ANI, railway tracks were seen submerged between Sion railway station and Matunga railway station following heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra. The heavy downpour resulted in waterlogging and flooding in parts of the city that caused massive traffic congestion. Commuters make their way through a waterlogged street following monsoon rains in parts of the city. In Dadar area, children waded through water to go to school as streets in Dadar East were flooded due to heavy rainfall.

Due to very heavy rains in Palghar since Sunday night, the Western Railway cancelled nearly 13 trains on Monday. The Western Railway PRO said, after receding of water, train movement at Palghar was started at 8.05 hours at restricted speed of 30 kmph in view of safety.

On June 30, Mumbai recorded its second highest 24-hour rainfall in the past 10 years at 234.8mm, between Friday and Saturday. The highest 24-hour June rain in the past 10 years was recorded on June 19, 2015, (283.4mm), while the all-time high was on June 10, 1991 (399mm). Mumbai received 231.4mm rain on June 25, 2018.
