Mumbai, December 29: With the New Year knocking the door and enthusiasts all thrilled to welcome 2020, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has denied the permission for all restaurants and pubs in Lower Parel area of Mumbai from hosting New Year's Eve parties. Inspection drive by the BMC officials are already in place for those who are flauting the fire safety norms.

Adding more information, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of G-South Ward -- Sharad Ughade -- said, as quoted by Mumbai Mirror, "Stern Action will be taken all those who use rooftops to serve food and drinks or to host parties." He even stated that permission will only be granted to those bars and restaurants who would be found fit with the safety norms. After the 2017 tragedy of Kamla Mills at Mojo's Bistro and 1Above, the BMC had revoked licences of numerous rooftop restaurants. According to policy of the BMC, terraces have to be open-air and can't be covered. Among the violations considered by BMC include missing or encroached refuge areas and massive floor space index, which are rampant in Lower Parel area. The instructions were given by BMC citing previous tragedies like of Kamla Mills (December 29, 2017) which had claimed 14 lives. It is to be known that the areas under BMC scanner include -- Kamla Mills, Raghuvanshi Mills and Todi Mills.
