Jaipur, September 26: With a rise in cases of theft of buffaloes in the region, a police station in Jaipur has updated itself on social media and created a WhatsApp group named "Operation Bhains Chori". Though this social media group, the local police is keeping a tab on buffalo theft from the area.

According to a report, published in the Hindustan Times, the policemen are keeping track of buffaloes theft from Jaipur and winning the confidence of villagers and victims of buffalo theft. The report stated that since the formation of this group till September 15, 64 cases of buffalo theft were reported from Jaipur alone in 2019. As per the date, after Jaipur, Alwar registered 38 cases, Bharatpur-32, Kota-Rural-30 and Karauli-19. Till now, only 89 -- out of 310 stolen buffaloes -- have been recovered so far. Surprisingly, 16 out of Jaipur’s 64 missing-buffalo theft cases have arrived from Shivdaspura police station, that came up with the WhatsApp-group idea.

Briefing more information, Station House Officer (SHO) of Shivdaspura police station Inder Raj Marodia said, "The group has helped in immediate contact, swift action and above all, confidence building between people and the police." It is to be known that a buffalo costs between Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh in Rajasthan and even if a stolen buffalo, is found, identifying the rightful owner is an issue.
