Mumbai, June 24: The bail pleas of three junior doctors charged of abetting the suicide of Payal Tadvi has been rejected by a District and Sessions Court in Mumbai on Monday. The bail plea, moved by Hema Ahuja, Bhakti Mehre and Ankita Khandelwal, was turned down by Judge P Jadhav after finding merit in the prosecution's arguments.

Tadvi, who belonged to the Scheduled Tribe community, ended her life in her hostel room at BYL Nair Hospital on May 22, allegedly after facing harassment from her seniors due to her caste. Dalit Organisations Seek Stringent Action Against Accused Doctors at Nair Hospital

The 26-year-old deceased's family alleged that three of her seniors ragged and hurled casteist abuses at her, forcing her to take the extreme step.

The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police took over the investigation from Agripada Police station on May 30. The post-mortem examination report of Tadavi's death released on June 5 revealed the evidence of a ligature mark on her neck. The three doctors were earlier sent to the judicial custody till June 21.

The case had drawn massive protests, with the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi, a political alliance of Dalit and Muslim groups, held demonstrations in several parts of Mumbai demanding justice for the deceased.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also heads the State's Home department, is monitoring the case and has asked the investigators to leave no stone unturned in their probe.
