Chandigarh, August 22: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday announced that his government would soon canalise all the rivers in the state by taking the technical support from World Bank (WB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB). The above comments arrived as Punjab is reeling under the effects of floods caused by incessant rains and breaches in the dam.

Stating that the government is looking into the aspects of canalising the flooded rivers, Captain Singh announced dedicated village-relief teams in flood-affected areas in Sultanpur Lodhi of Kapurthala and Jalandhar. He informed that each team would comprise officers of health, civil supply and animal husbandry departments. These teams would ensure timely supply of food, medicines and fodder for flood-affected families. According to the World Bank website, technical support includes engagement, outreach and training of people on open government data. Under the readiness assessments, short reviews to assess its current capabilities and develop a plan for action is derived.

Following this, advice, technical assistance and financing are made on Open Data strategies. After this technology and policy best practices to support the aim of the issues are being discussed. Along with this, international experts and local talent team together to collaborate, motivate and help each other learn new and valuable ways to use data.

World Bank's last process to provide technical assistance makes people capable of using the budget data. Through this procedure, the global bank helps its clients in producing foreign aid maps to promote effective and responsible use of Open Data.

Since the process looks complicated and involves a lot of experts, Captain Singh has also sought help from the Central government. Apart from this, the Punjab government sought a special package of Rs 1,000 crore to address losses due to floods. It has also urged PM Narendra Modi to waive off crop loans availed by farmers in the affected villages during the current cropping season.
