New Delhi, July 21: Days after the world witnessed the worst cyber-attacks during which Twitter accounts of prominent personalities across the globe were hacked, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday issued warning against these type of cyber crimes. The central bank asked people to beware of identity thefts. The RBI also shared a GIF file with a list of precautions that people should follow amid rising cyber crime incidents. the RBI tweeted, ".@RBI Kehta Hai.. Keep your personal details safe. Beware of Identity thefts!"

In the GIF, the RBI mentioned that that cyber scams are on a rise and customers should not share their One Time Password (OTP), UPI PIN or other bank details with anyone. Identity theft is on the rise for the past few months. A report released by NortonLifeLock in April, revealed that 4 out of 10 Indians experienced an identity theft over the last year. The report Titled the Cyber Safety Insights showed that 10 percent of online users in India impacted due to identity theft. To prevent identity theft, people are advised to use only legitimate sites when shopping online. People should also use a secure network. They should look out for devices attached to card readers or ATMs.

People must delete data from their old mobile phones, laptops or ipads, in case they purchase new devices. They should also avoid using public charging or using a public wifi network as hackers can access your data.
