The structure, known as Hostel Daze and located near Delhi University’s South Campus, came down around 1:30 PM on September 6 during repair work in the basement. Identified Deceased So Far
Authorities at AIIMS in Delhi said that 12 patients were received at the hospital following the Satya Niketan building collapse. Among the 12, seven are dead. Among the 12 people admitted at AIIMS, as criticals are Asgar Ali, Neeraj Bawa and Aditya Kumat. That said, a man named Krishna was discharged after he was declared stable by the hospital. A patient named Nitish Chib has been declared stable. The seven deceased have been declared as unknown, with their identity yet to be confirmed.
Status of the Injured and Ongoing Efforts
AIIMS’s JPN Apex Trauma Centre has treated the bulk of the casualties. Of the 12 patients received, seven died either on arrival or during treatment. Three are in critical condition, one is stable and one has been discharged after observation. Additional patients were treated at other hospitals, including Safdarjung. Rescue operations entered a second day on Monday, with teams from the NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, police and other agencies continuing to clear debris. Background and Official Response
The building was around 40 to 50 years old, stood on a small plot and operated as a boys’ PG housing mainly Delhi University students. Preliminary accounts cite ongoing repair work, water accumulation in the basement after recent rains, and structural additions over the years as factors under investigation. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered a magisterial inquiry. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has begun checks on other buildings in the area and suspended several officials.
