Bangkok, November 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday arrived in Bangkok for his three-day visit to Thailand. The Indian Premier will attend the 16th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-India, East Asia and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) summits. He will also interact with the Indian diaspora at an event "Sawasdee PM Modi" at 6 pm IST in Bangkok today. The “Sawasdee PM Modi” event is organised by the Indian community living in Thailand in coordination with the Indian Embassy in Bangkok. In a tweet, PM said, "Connecting with the Indian diaspora is something I always look forward to. At 6 PM IST this evening in Bangkok, I would interact with the Indian community-based in Thailand. Their contributions to Thailand in various spheres are valuable."

The "Sawasdee PM Modi" event will begin at 6 pm IST (Indian Standard Time) on Saturday. Apart from Address, PM Modi will also release a commemorative coin marking the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

What Sawasdee Means?

Sawasdee is a word used for greetings and goodbyes in the Thai language. The work "Sawasdee" is derived from Sanskrit word Svasti which means welfare.

On Sunday, PM Modi will co-chair the ASEAN-India summit alongside Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. "The ASEAN-related summits are an integral part of our diplomatic calendar. This will be Prime Minister Modi’s seventh ASEAN-India summit and sixth East Asia Summit,” the MEA said.
