The arrest stems from an incident during a demonstration at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar, where Bhardwaj allegedly assaulted 38-year-old Sanjay Kumar (also identified as Sanjay Azad), the father of student activist Nishu Azad. The altercation reportedly broke out over video recording during a protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). According to police sources, the victim sustained head injuries during the scuffle and required medical treatment. Following a complaint filed by CJP members and political activists, Delhi Police registered a formal investigation into the matter. Authorities subsequently tracked down Bhardwaj in Bulandshahr on Friday.
