An electric scooter parked inside a house in the Sikandarpura neighbourhood of Rath suddenly exploded on Sunday night, August 30, triggering a fire that spread to a nearby bike and household belongings. The blaze was eventually brought under control after local residents rushed to the spot and helped extinguish the flames. The victim has estimated the damage at approximately INR 2 lakh.
Santosh Kumar, a resident of Sikandarpura Mohalla, said his family was at home when they heard a loud explosion from the electric scooter, ETVBharat reported. The vehicle caught fire immediately after the blast, and the flames quickly spread. Fire Spreads To Nearby Bike
According to Santosh, the flames also engulfed a bike parked nearby before spreading to household items inside the house. The family was reportedly terrified as the fire intensified. Hearing their screams, neighbours rushed to the scene and attempted to put out the flames by pouring water. After considerable effort, the fire was brought under control. However, several household belongings had already been destroyed.
Santosh said the fire completely damaged both the electric scooter and the bike. Essential household items were also destroyed in the incident. He estimated the total loss at approximately two lakh rupees. The victim has filed a complaint against the company at the police station and demanded action.
Sub-Inspector Sangamlal said police had received a report about an electric scooter catching fire following an explosion. Police personnel reached the location and inquired into the circumstances of the incident. A complaint has been filed by the victim, and the matter is being investigated.
The exact cause of the explosion and subsequent fire has not yet been established. Further details are expected as the police investigation progresses.
