Nainital, January 14: In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old girl became pregnant after being allegedly raped by her uncle in Nainital. The incident came to light when the girl was admitted BD Pandey Government Hospital Nainital after she complained of stomach ache. During an examination, doctors found she had a two and a half month foetus, reported Hindustan Times. The case has been filed under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and various provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 against the accused. The girl’s father is a small roadside vendor in Nainital and her family originally hailed from Uttar Pradesh. Vipin Chandra Pant, in-charge Malital police station told Hindustan Times, “When she was questioned by her family members, she accused her uncle from Uttar Pradesh of raping her. The hospital authorities sent us a memo regarding the case and accordingly, we started an investigation into the matter.” According to the report, Nainital Police has sent a team to Uttar Pradesh to nab the accused.
In a similar incident in August last year, a 12-yr-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and killed by four men in Uttarakhand’s Bhakra village. The girl was kidnapped from her home by the accused. A case was registered under sections 302, 376 and 363 as well as under section 3/4 of the POCSO Act. The girl was kidnapped by the labourers who had come to work in the state. The victim's body was found the next morning near her village.
