Arvind Kejriwal Turns 51 Today, Gets Birthday Wishes From Mamata Banerjee, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Others

New Delhi, August 16: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday turned 51 years old. The activist-turned-politician was wished by scores of people on social media. Among the prominent personalities who greeted Kejriwal on his birthday, included West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

Kejriwal replied to her greeting, tweeting: "Thank you Didi". The two leaders share a bonhomie since the nascent stages of AAP. Former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, the son of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Shibu Soren, also wished Kejriwal on his 51st birthday. The Delhi CM promptly responded with a "thank you" message.

Kejriwal was also wished by BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar. "Happy Birthday wishes to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal," he tweeted. However, the AAP chief has not replied to his greeting.

Top AAP leader Atishi also posted a tweet on Kejriwal turning 51, wishing him a healthy life ahead.

"Happy Birthday @ArvindKejriwal! From being an activist who struggled on the streets of Delhi for rights of the aam aadmi, to being a visionary Chief Minister who has led the transformation of electricity, water, education and healthcare sectors- what a journey it has been! (sic)," she said.

Notably, Kejriwal was born on August 16, 1968 in Haryana's Rohtak. He went on to become a mechanical engineer from the Indian Institute of Management - Kharagpur. He joined the bureaucracy as Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer, but decided to quit and volunteer himself as an activist. In 2006, his work was honoured by the international community with the Ramon Magsaysay award.
