Mumbai, September 27: The Brahmapuri assembly seat in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district went to polls on October 21. In Brahmapuri Vidhan Sabha constituency, the fight was between the Congress and the Shiv Sena. The sitting MLA from Brahmapuri is Congress's Wadettiwar Vijay Namdevrao who retained the seat defeating Shiv Sena's Sandip Wamanrao Gaddamwar. In 2009, the seat was with BJP's Atul Devidas Deshkar. The Election Commission announced the schedule of Maharashtra assembly elections on September 21. As per the schedule, the last date for filing nominations was October 4. The scrutiny was done on October 5. Polling was held on October 21, while the counting of votes took place on October 24. The results were declared on October 24. The BJP, in 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections, came to power winning 122 seats. The Shiv Sena bagged 63 seats, whereas the Congress came distant third with 42 seats. The NCP could win 41 seats. Bahujan Vikash Aghadi and the PWP won three seats each. AIMIM tasted victory in two constituencies. Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Rashtriya Samaj Paksha and Samajwadi Party won one seat each. Seven Independents were also elected.
