New Delhi, August 18: The Congress has revoked the suspension of senior leader Mani Shankar Aiyar from the primary membership of the Party. In a statement issued by Congress general secretary Ashok Gehlot today,  it has been mentioned that Congress president Rahul Gandhi has approved the recommendation of the Central Disciplinary Committee of All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Aiyar was suspended from the primary membership of the Party after he made a remark on Prime Minister during Gujarat elections on December 7 last year. The 77-year-old Congress leader had called Modi a "neech kism ka aadmi" during the campaigning for Gujarat polls. The former union minister made the remark in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the inauguration of the Ambedkar International Centre in which he accused the Congress of undermining BR Ambedkar's legacy.

Aiyar has served as the Union Minister until he lost his seat in the 2009 elections. He was Union Cabinet Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports till 2009. The 77-year-old leader was also the first Minister of Development of North Eastern Region. He represented the Mayiladuthurai constituency of Tamil Nadu in the 14th Lok Sabha.
