Chandigarh, August 28: Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu has launched a fresh salvo at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) over the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report which indicted former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Speaking in the assembly, Sidhu compared former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal to ‘General Dyer’.

The Punjab minister also accused Badals of involving in corruption. The cricketer-turned-politician accused that the former chief minister and his son of having close ties with Dera Sacha Sauda to influence the voters. Yesterday, the commission’s report which was set up to probe the sacrilege incidents and the killing of two Sikh protesters in police firing at Behbal Kalan in Kotkapura on October 14, 2015, had indicted the former chief minister.

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh formed the commission. According to the report, the former chief minister was informed before police action was taken against the Sikh protesters who were against the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs. However, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has rejected the report. The party claimed it a conspiracy to defame the former chief minister. The report was tabled in the assembly yesterday.
