New Delhi, April 9: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced the schedule for by-elections to one assembly seat in Goa, four in Tamil Nadu and one in Karnataka. According to the ECI, bypolls to Panaji Assembly seat in Goa, Sulur, Aravakurichi, Thiruparankundram, Ottapidaram in Tamil Nadu and Kundgol in Karnataka will be held on May 19.

The results of by-elections to Panaji, Sulur, Aravakurichi, Thiruparankundram, Ottapidaram and Kundgol assembly seats will be declared on May 23. "After taking into consideration various factors like local festivals, electoral rolls, weather conditions etc., the Commission has decided to hold bye-elections to fill these vacancies," the poll panel said. Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Schedule.

The process of filing nomination will begin from April 20 and the last day is April 29. The Panaji Assembly seat fell vacant following the death of Manohar Parrikar on March 17. A by-election to Sulur Assembly seat is necessitated by the death of sitting MLA R Kanagaraj. The Ottapidaram constituency is represented by disqualified AIADMK MLA Sundararaj, while Aravakurichi is represented by Senthil Balaji, an AIADMK legislator who is now with the DMK. Thiruparankundram legislator A K Bose died last year.

The Kundgol Assembly seat in Karnataka fell vacant after the death of C S Shivalli last month.
