Prime Minister Modi Announces Ex-gratia of Rs 10 Lakh to Next of Kin of Workers Killed in Mosul

Prime Ministrer Narendra Modi has announced Rs 10 lakh ex-Mosul for the next kin of 38 Indians who were killed in Mosul, Iraq.

New Delhi, April 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced Rs 10 Lakh ex-gratia for the next kin of 38 Indians who were killed in Mosul, Iraq. Yesterday mortal remains of 38 Indian workers reached Amritsar. Minister of State of External Affairs Vijay Kumar Singh brought back the mortals from Iraq and handed over to the family members.

Punjab government has already announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh to the families of 27 out of 38 workers who belonged to Punjab. Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu also announced job for a person from the family of victims. Sidhu also assured that the pension of Rs 20,000 which currently being provided to the kin of the workers will continue.

The announcement of Rs 10 Lakh as ex-gratia by the Prime Minister came a day after the controversial remark made by VK Singh. Yesterday answering a question of providing compensation to the families of 38 workers, Singh said that providing compensation is not like distributing biscuits.

On March 20, when External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in the Rajya Sabha stated that 39 Indian nationals, who went missing in Mosul in 2014, were killed by the terror outfit Islamic State (IS).
