Heart-throbbing scenes were witnessed in Sydney as it welcomed the New Year, 2019. The Australian city witnessed unprecedented fireworks to mark the end of 2018. The celebrations lasted for nearly an hour, as the fire-crackers which began bursting at 12am, continued an hour post the midnight.

Earlier in the day, city residents had feared a drenched New Year's eve as rainfall was reported in most parts of the city. Much to the delight of Sydney residents, the rains subsided by 10pm, with skies turning comparatively clearer to facilitate the fireworks.

The New Year's Eve is welcomed first each year by New Zealand, followed by neighbouring Australia. Due to their geographical positioning, the Down Under region maintains a time-gap of nearly 10 hours from Greenwich -- the UK town considered as the mean solar time.
