James Cameron has addressed Matt Damon’s long-standing claim that he turned down the lead role in Avatar along with a share of the film’s profits, saying the widely believed version of events is 'not exactly true'. Damon has previously said he was offered the role of Jake Sully with 10 per cent of the film’s gross, a deal that would have been worth hundreds of millions of dollars, but the part ultimately went to Australian actor Sam Worthington.
