The Nifty 50 index opened with modest gains of around 500 points rising 0.6 per cent to 24,385.30 points in early trade on Thursday, while the BSE Sensex jumped 0.7% or 548.48 points to 78,647.26points. All major sectoral indices traded in the green except the Nifty Pharma index that was marginally down.
