BMW will begin series production of the iX5 Hydrogen in 2028, using a fuel cell system co-developed with Toyota. The vehicle boasts a 750 km range and a sub-five-minute refuelling time thanks to a new 700-bar tank. However, BMW warns that the technology's success relies on hydrogen prices matching diesel and the expansion of refuelling infrastructure under EU regulations.
