Recently, the Delhi High Court quashed a rape FIR against an academic, stating that educated adults cannot invoke criminal laws to penalise a failed consensual relationship. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma emphasised that heartbreaks or "wounded feelings" do not constitute criminal liability. The court found that the four-year relationship, evidenced by WhatsApp chats, was mutual and devoid of any initial false promise of marriage.
