The Bombay High Court has denied railway compensation to a passenger who consumed four large pegs of alcohol before being struck by a train in 2001. On February 11, Justice Jitendra Jain ruled that while the crash was an "untoward incident", the legal bar against intoxication applies. He noted that "alcohol ruins everything" and quoted F. Scott Fitzgerald: "First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you".
