A 50 kilogramme bag of maida now costs Rs 1,700 instead of the previous Rs 1,500. That is Rs. 34 per kilogramme as opposed to Rs. 30 earlier. Since maida makes up 80% of our raw materials, confectioners are forced to pass along the price increase to the customer.
